My professional activity and my
experience can be abstracted in that synthesis:
Since the seventies I am devoted exclusively to Vocational Guidance and Career Development in the University of Barcelona Universidad de Barcelona. The syllabuses in my University were, in any manner, the heirs of the interest for Vocational Guidance of Mancomunitat de Catalunya and of the Internationaly known Institut d’Orientació Professional founded on 1909 last Century (disappeared today) . From the University of Barcelona several teachers have strugled for more than 30 years in order to empower, disseminate and enlarge Educational and Vocational Guidance in Spain. Our objective was to institutionalise it in our country . |
Since more than thirty years I am the Chair Professor on Career Development and Vocational Training in my Department (Department of Research Methods and Diagnostic Procedures in Education, MIDE) Departamento de Métodos de Investigación y Diagnóstico en Educación of the Facultad de Pedagogía. In that Faculty, along the years, I created approximately some 15 new subjects related to career education, vocational guidance, occupational information, and so on. Examples of the current matters: Psychological Diagnostic, Occupational Information or Non sexist guidance.

The research lines that attract more to me are: making decisions procedures and methodologies, occupational information, exploratory behaviour, gender estereotypes against the occupational insertion of women, emigration and education, basic and transversal skills (competencies) for working, and organisation of vocational guidance. That one has been chaning on the line of needs of educational policies and trends of the European Community. |
I am a consultor on tutorial action in secondary and higher education, organisatiol and planning of guidance in all educational levels, creation of occupational information resources centers, job seeeking devices, virtual or not, socio laboral insertion programs and development of transversal competencies for work. Besides, I am Advisor of the British Journal of Guidance and Counseling. I recommend you a lot! And I ask you to send it your articles.

My colleagues are mi main spur: they are educational scientists very well known; they have teached me a lot. I am very happy in my work. I believe in my Department and my University because we work well in educational diagnostic procedures, evaluation, research methodologies and guidance. The work and academic climate is good, friendly, productive and respectful. The students are interested in modern trasn of guidance. We always have a lot of projects and activities in motion and the illusion is the maximum!
Other interesting topics for me have been the research on programmed instruction.
